ELKO, Nev. (AP) — The day after Christmas brought frigid temperatures to northern Nevada, where overnight readings plunged below zero in some parts of the state.

The Elko Daily Free Press reported a low of minus-9 early Monday at Elko Regional Airport, with wind chills in the double-digits below zero. It was even colder in Ely, where the National Weather Service forecast patchy freezing fog and wind chills as low as 20-below during the morning.

The weather service reported low temperatures below zero overnight in Winnemucca and Tonopah, with daytime highs expected to only get into the teens. Reno had overnight lows in the teens, while temperatures at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas stayed barely above freezing.
