Idaho Red Meat Production Drops Dramatically
(AP)The Idaho Cattle Association says the amount of red meat produced in Idaho has declined during the last decade. And the United State Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service says red meat production at Idaho packing plants in October was down 80 percent from the same time last year at 3.5 million pounds.
Twin Falls County Works On Livestock Control Ordinance
Twin Falls County Commissioners are working on a proposed livestock control ordinance that may help with some of the safety issues involved when livestock get out of their fences and wind up on public roads. Fines are proposed in the ordinance for livestock owners who persistently do little to keep their livestock from getting out. A first time violation would could cost violators $50 per day per animal. The second would cost $100 per day per animal.
Dairy Industry Booms In Idaho
There are a lot more cows in Idaho then there were this time last year. According to the most recent statistics from the USDA's National Agricultural Service, the state's number of milk cows jumped 21,000 from March 2010 to March 2011, totaling approximately 575,000 head. As a result, March milk production jumped 11.7 percent from February 2011, totaling 1.08 million pounds. Nati
