Law Enforcement Has Stern Warning For Idaho Teens On TikTok

Social media can be used for some pretty awesome things but can also be used for some pretty dumb things.

On one hand, you can learn a recipe, how to build something like a birdhouse, and even fitness tips. On the other, you have a web of craziness in the form of conspiracies, dances, and of course... trends.

You know what we mean by "trends"

It's one thing to do the ice bucket challenge, it's a whole other thing to break the law entirely and that's what police say is happening right here in the Treasure Valley. Ada County Sheriff's Office says they encountered a group of teens when responding to a call of suspicious activity on Sunday around 3 AM.

"On Sunday at about 3 AM, deputies responded to a call for a suspicious subject in Hidden Springs who was reportedly hiding behind vehicles," ACSO said on their Facebook page.

"When deputies arrived, they located four juveniles, who later admitted to ‘ding dong ditching’ as part of a TikTok challenge."

While ding-dong ditching might sound like a popular pastime of yesteryear, this is 2024 and things aren't what they used to be. You might recall us sharing a story about a TikTok challenge involving kids kicking down doors; while this isn't as bad, the person on the receiving end of the prank might assume the worst, and well, things can get ugly quickly.

"Look, we get it. Some TikTok trends are fun: catchy audio, silent reviews, dance routines, stitches," ACSO said in their post.

"What isn't fun? A late-night phone call to parents, a courtesy ride home with a deputy, and a $150 curfew violation in hand."
