You live in Idaho, so if you aren’t used to weather changes like this, you should be. We spent a good part of the week in the 70 and 80 degree temperature range in the afternoons with many frosty mornings and this weekend we’ll drop into the 50s and 60s for the daytime temps and pushing the freeze line at night.

Some parts of Idaho will even get snowed on this weekend with forecasts up to three inches in some places.

Snow Expected As Early As This Weekend In Southern Idaho

This really was the kind of week that we mockingly say is common Idaho weather. It was an ‘if you don’t like the weather, wait 10 minutes’ kind of week because we had beautiful and sunny weather, rainy and chilly weather, times where frost covered everything, and times when people were out in shorts and sandals.

The weekend, and really, the foreseeable forecast, will not be the shorts and sandals kind of weather.

We just learned a few days ago that our winter forecast shows more snow than originally expected and that snow could start this weekend. The National Weather Service has sent out an alert for snowy conditions in elevations above 5,000 feet in Eastern Idaho, which could impact travel for some people. The snow looks to be focused on the border of Idaho with Montana and Wyoming.

The snow is expected to hit Saturday into Saturday evening, dropping 1 to 3 inches of snow in higher elevation mountain passes. There is now weather advisory or alert issued, but NWS out of Pocatello says ‘individuals should be prepared for slick road conditions and winter travel’.

These stats are based on data from the National Weather Service. In order to be considered the date of the first snowfall, a city needed to receive at least .1" of snow.
