A car accident in Southern Idaho between an unknown vehicle and a moose was reported Wednesday morning.

Due to injuries sustained in the accident, the moose was euthanized by authorities.

We originally reported the accident earlier this morning, but at the time, the circumstances surrounding the dead moose were limited.

The dead moose was found just down the street from our office in Twin Falls, at the intersection of Washington Street and Park Ave., so most of the employees saw the crane and the moose hanging from it as the crew dissected and salvaged the carcass.

Idaho Fish and Game says the cow moose had been hit by a car and injured so badly that they had to euthanize it. The vehicle that hit the moose reportedly fled the scene and has not been identified.

The crane used to help clear the animal from the road and for salvage was from a local business, Arnold Machinery Company, which is just north of where the accident happened.

When Moose Kill

Moose, unlike their dear deer relatives, aren't typically scared of humans and may not flee in their presence. If taunted, teased, or provoked, however, moose can become triggered when protecting their young or territory.
