The Idaho State Police reported two tragic fatal accidents over the weekend on Idaho highways. They also announced that the body of a driver who had crashed into the Payette River had been recovered.

The fatal accidents happened on Friday and Saturday, just a few miles from each other in Northern Idaho. A fatal ATV crash happened on a road in Spirit Lake, and the other was a young driver in a car just south of Rathdrum. Idaho State Police are investigating each accident, and details can be found below.

16-Year-Old Driver Killed in Idaho Highway Collision With a Light Post

The first of the fatal accidents happened on June 5th, around 2:30 PM, and was reported by ISP in a news release on June 7th. The crash happened on SH41 at Wyoming Ave., south of Rathdrum.

The driver of a white 2016 Volkswagen Jetta, a 16-year-old female from Rathdrum, Idaho, was traveling north on State Highway 41 at a high rate of speed when she lost control of the vehicle and struck the traffic light support pole at Wyoming Avenue.

The juvenile driver was removed from the car and taken to a local hospital by ground ambulance, where she passed away the next day. She was wearing her seatbelt, and investigators don’t believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Two Fatal Accidents Reported By Idaho State Police Over the Weekend

The second fatal accident involved an ATV crash a few minutes after midnight north of Spirit Lake on the This A Way/That A Way Roads on June 6th.

A black 2007 Kawasaki ATV driven by a 43-year-old male from Oldtown, Idaho, was traveling west on This A Way Rd. when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the wooded area.

The driver of the ATV was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The accident occurred near 170 That A Way Road.
