Winter Weather Will Make Thanksgiving Travel Dangerous in Idaho
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Idaho but for Thanksgiving. The Weather Channel has advisories issued for many parts of Southern Idaho over the holiday.
Snow Expectations For Thanksgiving in Idaho
Weather conditions will not be ideal for those traveling on Thanksgiving. The weather forecast includes a Winter Weather Advisory saying there will be snow accumulation of 2 to 5 inches in Twin Falls and the mountains could get up to 10 inches of fresh snow.
Winter Weather Advisory For Twin Falls, Pocatello, and Stanley
These are the details on the Winter Weather Advisory for Twin Falls:
- WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches.
- WHERE...Southwest Highlands, Western Magic Valley, and Southern Twin Falls County zones.
- WHEN...From 5 AM Thanksgiving Day to 5 AM MST Friday.
- IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult.
- ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Use caution and give plenty of extra time if traveling on the I-84 or US Highway 93 corridor during the Thanksgiving holiday. Breezy winds could cause localized areas of low visibility, especially on US Highway 93 near the Nevada border.
A Winter Weather Advisory is also issued for the Pocatello region with similar conditions expected as Twin Falls, only a slightly different timeframe and more snow possible:
- WHAT...Snow, moderate at times. Storm total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches with localized accumulations of 3 to 6 inches possible along and south of the Interstate 86 and 84 travel corridor. North winds increasing and gusting as high as 35 mph Thursday night producing areas of blowing and drifting snow.
- WHERE...Eastern Magic Valley, Shoshone Desert, and the Snake River Plain.
- WHEN...From 6 AM Thursday to 9 AM MST Friday.
- IMPACTS...Plan on hazardous road conditions and potential travel delays.
