What Causes Tire Blowouts on Highways

There are many reasons a tire could blow while driving. Some reasons can be prevented by physical inspections of the tires before driving or by obeying posted speed rules and recommendations for driving situations. A tire blowout can also happen due to unexpected or unavoidable defects in the rubber. The Allstate website states that the main cause of tire blowouts is low air pressure in the tire. Overloaded vehicles, old or worn tires, speeding, and road debris can also lead to unexpected and possibly fatal tire blowouts while driving.

Blown tires are a common issue on roads across the United States. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that more than 75,000 accidents are caused by blown tires each year and more than 400 deaths are the result of these accidents.
