Updated Timeline For Teardown of Vacant Twin Falls Medical Offices
In early January, the City of Twin Falls determined that a long-vacant building near the downtown city park was a public nuisance and a safety concern.
They then decide that the building would need to be demolished, at the expense of the owner of the property.
Old Medical Offices in Twin Falls, Idaho Will Be Demolished By the City
We wrote about the decision of the city in early April and received a few questions about the decision, timeline, and legality of the City’s plan.
The decision to tear down the building and give the demo bill to the property owner comes after years of attempts to get the owner to do something to care for the property. The City of Twin Falls made multiple attempts to contact the owner, Galena Opportunity Inc. Attempts to remedy the situation failed, so the City, citing multiple state and city codes, is using the law to take care of it.

The timeline is another issue that has been brought up. Is the City in a hurry to clear the lot, and how long has the building actually been vacant?
In our original story, I pointed out that I have lived in Twin Falls for nearly 20 years, and the ‘building has been vacant the entire time’. That claim was met with controversy from people who say they had worked in that building more recently than 20 years ago. So, to clarify on my end, nearly 20 years is specifically 17 years.
As far as whether the City is in a hurry to clear the lot, we now know that they are actively looking for bids from competent companies to do the work, and they want those bids to be submitted by 2PM on May 8th, 2025.
The building, located at 660 Shoshone Street in Twin Falls, is a 3-story structure covering 87,354 square feet.
While the bid submission process has a deadline, there isn’t a timeframe listed for when the work will have to be finished.

The demolition, removal, and remediation includes a few key points that will be required of the cleanup crew. This includes:
- Removal and proper disposal of asbestos containing material and lead glazing as identified in the NESHAP report and as may otherwise be found during demolition process.
- Stub, seal/cap and install above ground markers for water, wastewater, stormwater and natural gas utility connections
- Demolish, transport and properly dispose of demolished building/site material.
- Remove foundations/footings to a depth of 24 inches below bottom of concrete pad.
- Seed, protect and grow mixed grass cover.
