Dog Chews Up Canadian Owner’s Passport Day Of Caribbean Vacation

Aren't dogs just wonderful? I love my pooch dearly, and he's certainly gotten into his share of mischief in his first year of life, but our Golden Retriever has yet to do something as naughty as costing me a pre-paid, island getaway.

Our Golden Retriever, "Whiskey," just turned one a couple of weeks ago. He has pretty bad separation anxiety, even if it's just a quick trip down the road to pick up our son from kindergarten. He's dug holes, snacked on the wood railing, ripped up part of the drip system in the garden, and most recently, chewed up an extension cord.

He gets yelled at and has had the occasional smack on the ass. Aside from that, we don't punish him because we understand he'll grow out of it soon. Whiskey is a loyal, loving dog, and has become the family's best friend.

"Today I was supposed to be in the Caribbean but I'm not. I'm at home with the snow and slush because THIS GUY chewed up my passport hours before I was to leave for the airport. He doesn't even look guilty."

I am a member of multiple social media sites devoted to Golden Retrievers. They are a mountain of useful information about these breeds, one we had never owned before February 2, 2023. The stories people share about their dogs can be hilarious, and heartbreaking.

A recent post to the Golden Retrievers Lovers' public Facebook group had me and my wife cracking up Tuesday night because we could see our dog doing the same thing. Valdes Welch is the proud owner of a beautiful golden that tore up her passport the morning she was supposed to fly to the Caribbean.
