This specific dry dog food is made for animals that require special diets and was sold in eight and 10-pound bags by Purina nationally. Dogs that consume food that has elevated Vitamin D levels may develop symptoms that include vomiting, weight loss, excessive drooling, increased thirst and urination, and even kidney dysfunction, according to information shared by the FDA.

Purina is urging consumers that have this product in possession to discard it immediately or return it to the store in which the specialized formula was purchased. There is a hotline set up for those who have questions or concerns about Purina's voluntary recall. To reach a representative, call 800-345-5678 during normal business hours.

The initial recall was announced on February 8, 2023. Affected product UPC codes for easier identification can be found on the FDA website. No other Purina products are included in this most recent recall.
