Fresh slabs of wind drifted snow may form as snowfall increases late this afternoon and evening, increasing avalanche dangers in the backcountry of the Sawtooth, Boulder and Smoky mountains.
Another weekend is upon us, which means more people will be heading into the backcountry. That also means those who do should use extra caution due to continued avalanche dangers.

UPDATE, Jan. 22: The Fremont County Sheriff's Office and Fremont County Search and Rescue says a snowmobiler has died after being caught in an avalanche near Island Park. The agencies remind recreationists to use extreme caution, pay attention to weather bulletins, and avoid the backcountry until conditions improve.
