1951 — Maureen Connolly, 16, won the United States women’s nationals at Forest Hills, NY. (More info.)
1972 — US swimmer Mark Spitz became the first athlete to win seven gold medals in a single Olympics at the Summer Games in Munich, Germany. (More info.)
