What is IRS Free File?

Did you know you can file your taxes for free?  IRS Free File is a public-private partnership between the IRS and industry leading tax software companies, and everyone can file for free using IRS Free File’s brand name software.

How does Free File work?  In a nutshell, everyone can file for free, but only people making under $58,000 can download the free software to prepare their tax forms to file.

The IRS set up a website that, at the moment, looks like it contains language that people can actually read and understand.

The only point of confusion that will hopefully be resolved is that one IRS page says the cutoff amount for the free software is $57,000, and the other says it's $58,000.  What, do you think the IRS works in the numbers business or something?
