A Hailey couple is fighting their condominium association over the American flag they've been flying outside their unit. Steve and Robin Perfect are flying a flag outside their Hailey condo in honor of their son who is bound for Iraq with an Idaho Army National Guard unit. But the flag violates Copper Ranch Homeowners' Assoc. rules which forbid tenants from placing items in the complex's common area. Property manager Brian Emerick says he sent letters to the Perfect's on behalf of the association board reminding them of rules that prohibit display of anything outdoors. Senator Mike Crapo has written a letter backing the Perfect's citing a federal law that he says protects the couple's rights to fly the flag. According to Crapo the legislation "supercedes homeowner association restrictions in favor of individual rights to display the U.S. flag on residential property."
