Boise Police Seek Witnesses After Downtown Shooting Investigation
We're lucky to live in a place as safe as the Treasure Valley. Despite our growth, one of the things that makes our area so special is the way that we look out for one another--for our neighbors! That's a principle that seems to have held on as Boise has boomed.
Despite low crime rates, there seems to always be one incident or so that makes us scratch our heads.
A recent shooting in downtown Boise, is one of those.
Just this week, at 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22nd, officers from the Boise Police Department had to respond to the area of Grove and 15th in downtown Boise after reports of 'shots fired'.
Sure enough, officers found a male victim with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Thankfully, an arrest has been made.
The Boise Police Department released the following statement regarding their arrest:
Detectives from the Boise Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit continued the investigation and identified the suspect as Ryan Norton-Putnam. Today, April 23, 2026, officers located Norton-Putnam in an alley near the 500 block of W. Main Street. Officers secured the scene, and because the suspect was possibly armed, BPD’s Special Operation Unit deployed a noise and flash distraction device as part of their effort to safely approach and take the suspect into custody. Norton-Putnam was arrested around 3:30 p.m. and booked into the Ada County Jail.
With the suspect in custody--police now seek more information and two witnesses that they claim, know more and likely have more footage.
While the suspect is in custody, an investigation remains ongoing and authorities say that there were two witnesses, as seen on nearby surveillance footage. It also appears that these two witnesses may have recorded the incident themselves.
These individuals are encouraged to call police.
