Living in Idaho, from time to time, wildlife will make their way into town and can cause a stir among residents. They can hold up traffic, they can cause some to stop and take pictures or stare, or they can cause an accident as well. When an animal comes into town, the hope is that it will be caught and relocated back into the wild, but from time to time, that isn't an option. When one of these animals is struck by a vehicle, it will need to be put down, if it doesn't die naturally. The animals are then disposed of, usually, but there are exceptions. Recently, a moose died in Twin Falls and was then skinned on the side of the road, where many residents witnessed that act, and plenty of people have something to say about it.

On Wednesday, August 6, a moose made its way into Twin Falls and sadly had to be put down after being struck by a vehicle. With the warm weather and the animal not damaged, it was decided to skin the large beast on the side of the road to preserve the meat to donate it. With an animal that size and the temperatures that warm, it had to be done quickly, which is why the animal was not moved first. Fish and Game moved rapidly to salvage as much meat as they possibly could, but some witnesses felt it was inappropriate to do so out in the open where children and animal lovers saw what was taking place. Many have thoughts and comments about what took place that morning.

News quickly spread last week about what was happening to the moose in Twin Falls, and the reactions varied, with some understanding why it was being done and others upset about where it was taking place and what was happening. Below are some of the reactions:

WTH

Sickos abound in TF

Horrible, why would you do that

Glad the meat was saved

They have to be skinned to allow the meat to cool so it doesn't sour. In this heat, they couldn't take it elsewhere; it had to be immediate.

Dang, wish I knew I would've liked to get some moose meat

These are only some of the reactions. Some were upset, some were confused, and others understood and were disappointed to miss out on getting some moose meat.

These aren't the only reactions, as some parents were upset that their children witnessed this taking place and felt it could have been handled differently. It is done, and the meat has been donated, but could the situation have been handled better? What are your thoughts?

When Moose Kill

Moose, unlike their dear deer relatives, aren't typically scared of humans and may not flee in their presence. If taunted, teased, or provoked, however, moose can become triggered when protecting their young or territory.
