Three 80s Twin Falls Summer Hangouts that Nobody Remembers
I’m looking for some help from some of my Gen Xers who might remember some of the places we used to hang out at in Twin Falls during spring and summer break.
I was talking to a handful of friends the other night and we got into a friendly debate about everything from the locations of these hangouts, to whether or not they even existed. So please feel free to comment and back me up, or correct me if I’m wrong.
Big T Swimming Pool
So, almost everyone in my group remembered this pool that was located over by Robert Stuart Middle School. A few of us disagreed about the location, but nobody but I could recall a small mini-golf course located on the property as well. I know how memories can play tricks and maybe I’m mixing things up with the Anderson Camp course off I-84; but I swear I can remember playing mini golf at Big T, as well as swimming there back in the day. The name itself was a play-off the letter T (the shape of the pool) and also in reference to a golf tee.
Oregon Trail Go-Karts
Everyone I was talking to could remember the indoor go-kart track, Nazzkart, that used to be located in what’s now Jumptime Idaho in the 90s. But only two of us remembered driving go-karts on a track at Oregon Trail Campground. I know we aren’t making this up. I distinctly remember a full-on outdoor go-kart race track at Oregon Trail off Kimberly Road... Or do I? Please tell me I’m not wrong.
Hydrotubes on Addison Ave East
Hydrodutbes were all the rage in the ’80s. By today’s standards, they weren’t much more than glorified, enclosed water slides; but they were the closest thing we had to a water park before the existence of places like Roaring Springs.
I was the only person in my group who could recall Hydrotubes in Twin Falls, somewhere across from K-Mart (now D&B Supply), on Addison. I was driving by that location and I could've sworn they were located where the Addison Stinker is, but after reading some of your comments, I think I’m mistaken. Several of you said that the Hydrotubes were in the building just to the east of Stinker, which has since been a handful of other businesses including a veterinary clinic, dogwash, and offices for Webb Nursery.
What's Right, Wrong, and Missing From This List?
I'd love to see your comments on what I got right, what's wrong, and even other old '80s summer spots we should add to this list. If you're reading this on our station app, text us on the app or email the author of this post and let us know.
