The Idaho Transportation Department is constantly working to improve the functionality and drivability of our highways. And they have a lot going on, if you hadn’t noticed. One of the large projects happening right now is the work on Interstate 84 between Twin Falls and Jerome.

Many of us were excited when some of the newly finished lanes were opened, which widened the highway, a few weeks ago. While those lanes are still open, we have a new obstacle to deal with when getting onto the highway at the US93 interchange.

Leaving Twin Falls? This I-84 Highway Ramp Will Be Closed Through Spring 2026

Admittedly, when I heard about this onramp closure, I was irritated. Then I realized it isn’t a big deal, and you don’t have to take any out-of-the-way detours to get on the highway. If you are headed north on US93 out of Twin Falls, you just need to keep driving north for a few more feet and get in the left lane instead of the right lane. The only real bummer is that you don’t get to do the fun speed-loop (not its real name) anymore at Exit 173.

The closure is temporary as crews work to replace the aging asphalt on the highway with concrete. According to ITD:

  • The closure began on the morning of April 6th and will last through spring 2026.
  • Northbound US93 traffic (leaving Twin Falls) will turn left onto the existing westbound onramp (typically used for southbound US93 traffic) to enter I-84.

As is always the case, plan ahead and take care in construction zones. We don’t want I-84 to be anything like the dangerous and deadly stretch of I-15 near Pocatello has become during the construction work. For those worried about the timeline of the seemingly endless project, the ITD website for the project says it should be finished this year, 2026.
