UPDATE 07/28/26: The father of a child killed in an Idaho highway accident on November 25th, 2025, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, gross negligence, and felony injury to a child. Two other children were also injured in the accident.

Following an investigation, police determined that the father, 31-year-old Austin Summers, was at fault in the deadly accident. Reports say Summers was driving over 70 miles an hour through a construction zone when he crashed into the back of the disabled vehicle. 7-year-old Graham Summers was not buckled up and was killed in the crash. Austin and his 5-year-old and 3-year-old children were also in the vehicle and injured.

The investigation found that along with excessive speed, Austin had been using his phone to read and post messages, and he had opiates and cocaine in his blood. Summers was charged on July 21st, 2026, and is being held at the Ada County Jail. A GoFundMe was set up to help the family cover the medical and funeral costs.

Juvenile Passenger Dead, Others Injured, in Idaho Highway Accident

ORIGINAL STORY 11/25/25: A tragic accident on an Idaho highway on Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a juvenile passenger. Others were injured in the accident.

The crash is believed to have been caused by a pickup truck rear-ending a box truck on Interstate 84 in Canyon County.

Idaho Highway Accident Claims the Life of a Child and Injures Others

Idaho State Police are investigating the accident that involved 2 vehicles and happened a few minutes after 3 PM on November 25th, 2025. The crash happened on I84 near mile marker 39. Long-term road construction is ongoing in that area of the highway.

The report from ISP states:

  • A white 2013 Ford F450 Box Truck, driven by a 21-year-old male from Nampa, Idaho, with one adult male passenger, was westbound on I-84.
  • The Ford was rear-ended by a black 2007 GMC Sierra, driven by a 31-year-old male of Meridian, Idaho, with juvenile passengers.

The driver and passenger in the Ford did not report any injuries.

One juvenile passenger in the GMC passed away at the scene of the accident, and three other occupants of the GMC were taken to a local hospital by ground ambulance.

ISP also reported today that they had arrested a man in connection with a double homicide in New Plymouth in 2022. A man and a woman were found shot to death in their home on May 14th, 2022. Police found the gun, which they believe to be the murder weapon, in a nearby canal.

They arrested one man for the murders, but are also looking at other suspects linked to the murders.
