Treekies are as hard-core as any other film franchise fan you'll find in existence. A small mountain cabin used in one of the Star Trek films is still standing near a trailhead that takes fans of the outdoors to the base of California's tallest mountain.

Mount Whitney is the tallest mountain in California by a mere 100 feet, with Mt. Williamson ranked at number two in the state. I have researched climbing the mountain many times. I have a climber's guide to the mountain in my travel trailer and hope to follow through with the idea someday.

Other nearby notable spots near Mt. Whitney that might inspire people to head to the Sierra Nevada Mountains include Yosemite National Park and Sequoia National Park.

Mt. Whitney is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and about 100 miles east of Fresno. The area is known for its rugged beauty, tall trees, and the occasional film shoot.

Star Trek Generations was released in 1994. In one of the early scenes of the film, Captain Kirk (William Shatner) is approached by Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) for some intergalactic guidance, and Kirk is seen chopping wood in front of a picturesque cabin surrounded by stunning wilderness.

The landmark has become known as "Captain Kirk's Cabin," and can be found near a trailhead west of Lone Pine, CA. For Star Trek fans, it makes for a pretty great photo opportunity while enjoying a hike in one of the most beautiful areas of California.
