The annual Twin Falls high school football game, which helps recognize the sacrifices made by area military veterans, is this week.

Twin Falls and Canyon Ridge High Schools will play on Friday at 7 P.M. in the annual Service Bowl, an event that has been taking place since 2008 with a focus on honoring active and retired Southern Idaho military personnel.

Service Bowl week is an exciting time in Twin Falls. Organizers host events in the days leading up to the game for both veterans and Magic Valley emergency service men and women, including a free breakfast for our soldiers and donut delivery to city firefighters and hospital staffers.

I had the opportunity to chat with Canyon Ridge High School Student Body President Rachel Layne Vieu this week. Vieu is a senior and a business administration major who also attends classes at the College of Southern Idaho; she has family ties to the military.

'Both of my grandparents were in the military,' said Vieu. 'Our (area) vets benefit by getting recognition throughout the week, especially with the free veteran breakfast. '

This week's conference game is a home one for Twin Falls High School, according to MaxPreps. Canyon Ridge High School has a record of 1-3, while Twin Falls High School is 2-1.

Rachel did say that Southern Idaho vets will be honored during the game.

'There will be some sort of recognition for the vets at the game,' said Vieu. 'Since it is at Twin Falls High School, I'm not exactly sure of what it will be.'
