Once again CSI officials are looking at ways to make up for the shortfall in state funding and once again their eye is on tuition.  The CSI Board of Directors is considering a measure that would change the way tuition is collected.  Right now full time CSI students who take up to 12 credit hours are charged $105 dollars per credit and for credits between 12 and 16 hours they are charged a flat rate semester rate of $1260 dollars.

If adopted, the new measure would charge students $105 per credit hour for any number of credits they take.  CSI President Dr. Jerry Beck stressed the fact that this is only in the discussion state and no changes have been decided upon.  CSI is looking at ways to make up for more than $183,000 dollars in additional state funding cuts the college faces this year plus the over $800,000 less in federal stimulus and other funding that won’t be available this year.  Cost saving measures at CSI currently in place include a hiring freeze on vacant positions for at least 90 days and larger class sizes.
