It's always fun to learn that experts think that your part of the country will one day disappear in a cloud of rubble. That's right. Earthquake experts believe that a huge earthquake and tsunami will someday end life as we know it. Have a nice day.

Accuweather just shared some details of what may happen when the Cascadia subduction zone lets loose.

Stretching more than 600 miles (965 km) along the coastline from Vancouver Island down to California's Cape Mendocino lies a sleeping, tectonic giant capable of causing massive devastation and drastically changing the face of the Pacific Northwest.

I'm normally a big fan of disaster movies, but I'd prefer to not live out one in real life. It's easy to just poo-poo the possibility of a massive pacific northwest earthquake/tsunami scenario playing itself out. But, people in the know are taking this seriously, which led to the Cascadia Rising 2016 exercise that FEMA carried out in June. Here's how FEMA described what could happen.

A 9.0 magnitude earthquake along the Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ) and the resulting tsunami is the most complex disaster scenario that emergency management and public safety officials in the Pacific Northwest could face. Cascadia Rising is an exercise to address that disaster.

A 9.0 earthquake? Thanks FEMA. I'll sleep better tonight knowing that our reality could become a movie on SyFy.

It's debatable what effect even a massive earthquake would have in Idaho if/when the Cascadia subduction zone decides to ruin our day. At the very least, any friends you have in Oregon would probably be wanting to bunk at your house for awhile.

If you want to learn more about what the scientific super-geniuses think could happen, there's plenty of info on the USGS website.
