Free Tire Disposal Coming Up in May for the Magic Valley
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX)-Warmer temperatures are on the way to the Magic Valley and along with it mosquitoes.
Every year Twin Falls County Pest Abatement District sponsors a day county citizens can help cut down on breeding grounds for mosquitoes by throwing away old unused tires. The annual Tire Amnesty Day is set for May 7th, a Saturday. People will be able to throw away up to 4 tires for free at the landfill or any transfer station. However, there might be a small fee for larger tires that come off tractors and trucks.
According to the Pest Abatement District mosquitoes can live and breed in anything that holds water for more than 7 days. Tires are a common place to find mosquitoes. Other things like cans, birdbaths, rain gutters, toys and animal water troughs can also make a nice home for mosquitoes. Officials recommend a routine check of their property and drain anything holding water. This will help prevent the potential spread of disease by mosquitoes.
