Idaho Health Officials Say Flu Season Is Late This Year

Flu season is getting a late start throughout the country. Health officials are also seeing an uptick in the amount of flu cases in Idaho.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this is one of the latest flu seasons in nearly three decades. But within the last couple of weeks more flu cases have popped up around the country and here in the Gem State.  Emily Simnitt with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare says they are seeing sporadic cases of flu across the state, mainly in the northern part of the state. This late start is giving those who forgot to get their flu shots earlier in the year the opportunity now to protect themselves before the flu season fully hits.  It takes anywhere from to two weeks for the flu shot to become effective and that's why health officials say it's so vital to get vaccinated now.
