The National Association of Realtors, in partnership with the National Forest Foundation, will significantly impact Idaho. They announced they would plant 215,000 trees in national forests throughout Idaho this year.

What kind of impact will that make? It will capture 107,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions over its lifetime - the equivalent to the CO2 emissions released from:

  • Nearly 21,000 homes' electricity use for one year.
  • More than 23,000 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles driven in one year.
  • About 12.1 million gallons of gasoline consumed.
  • More than 13 billion smartphones charged.
  • More than 2266 million miles driven by an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle.

According to the press release, "the planted trees will support reforestation efforts in the Boise and Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests to bolster recovery from the 2016 Pinoeer Fire and the 2021 Johnson Creek Fire."

The President & CEO of the National Forest Foundation, Mary Mitsos, said, "Tree planting after wildfires is more important than ever. These 215,000 trees are a crucial step to not only restoring public lands but to providing cleaner air and beautiful outdoor spaces for future generations to enjoy."

The announcement was made at the NAR Community and Stewardship Series: Boise, Idaho. The symposium included two panels, "Sustainability and the State of Idaho" and the "Residential Resilience and Community Stewardship."

Boise Regional Realtors 2023 President Debbi Myers said, "The outdoor opportunities in Idaho are such a large draw to current residents and those moving to our area, including our miles of Boise River Greenbelt."
