Dramatic Photos Show Fire Engulfing Idaho Lakeside Home

It's a scene that you hope to never see--your home, up in flames, and being completely destroyed.

Unfortunately, one Idaho family is facing the reality that none of us would ever want to.

Over the weekend, a massive fire broke out in Hayden Lake, Idaho -- a small town in North Idaho. The fire not only tore through the home, but quickly spread through the 'wild land' nearby.

Because the home is uniquely located--directly on a lake--fire fighters had a challenging time battling it. Unlike a residential fire in a suburban area, this home was buried in the forest and only had so many angles it could be reached.

Perhaps the most unique aspect of it all was the way that fire crews had to approach it and battle it from the lake-- crews were equipped with unique fire fighting boats and equipment. Luckily, there was no shortage of water on that lake!

A statement from the local fire district explained just how much work it was to contain this fire:

NLFD firefighters were alerted to a structure fire in the area of Waverly Lp. in Hayden Lake at approximately 17:39 last evening. A large column of smoke could be seen from the city of Hayden prompting a 2nd alarm. Crews arrived to find a large 3 story home fully engulfed in flames and quickly spreading the hillside. Firefighters utilized FB590 to attack the main structure while crews on the ground stretched hand lines to protect the adjacent structures. Simultaneously a wildland fire started above the home which initiated a response from IDL and aerial crews. NLFD firefighters simultaneously attacked the wildfire while controlling the main incident. Firefighters successfully contained the fire to one home.

The Northern Lakes Fire Department also went on to thank surrounding area authorities that assisted in containing the blaze.
