During the winter, many illnesses pop up around the state. Likely everyone's coworkers will miss a day or two due to being ill, and your children are likely going to miss some school. There are many diseases, viruses, and illnesses making the rounds in the state. Some are common colds, some are the flu, and some are nasty viruses that have different symptoms, depending on what you catch. There is one nasty virus making its way through Idaho right now that is torturing those who get it, and one that you should hope to avoid.

While many viruses are going around the Gem State currently, the Norovirus appears to be one of the worst and is highly contagious. If you live with someone with it, go to school with someone with it, or work with someone with it, likely, everyone in the classrooms, at home, or in the office will end up with Norovirus. The symptoms consist of throwing up, stomach cramping, and diarrhea. In less severe cases, you could be lucky and only suffer from a headache, low-grade fever, chills, and muscle aches. The good news is that the virus typically only lasts from 24 to 48 hours, but it will be a miserable day or two.

If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself with Norovirus this season, the most important thing to do is to clear your schedule, stay home, and rest. Other than that, you will also need to make sure you drink plenty of fluids, such as Gatorade, juice, or water to avoid dehydration, as well as Tylenol or Motrin for potential headaches or muscle aches. The best way to avoid getting Norovirus, outside of avoiding everyone, is to wash your hands often, not to drink or eat after others, and to clean and disinfect anything you use or share with coworkers or friends.
