UPDATE: Kelley's Orchard is currently closed, as cherry season has ended due to a lower supply than usual this year. They will be reopening next month for peaches. Check back here for any further updates.

One of the best parts about summer is that farmers markets return to the Magic Valley and instead of getting fruits and vegetables from the grocery store, we can get fresh ones from farmers markets. While these are great options and there are a variety of markets to check out each weekend, they might not be the best option in the Magic Valley. There are orchards throughout the area that supply even more fresh fruits in the area, and one hidden gem isn't that far from Twin and you may not know it is there unless somebody has told you.

Located down in the Canyon outside of Filer is Kelley's Canyon Orchard, a hidden gem that allows customers to pick their fruit directly from the tree. You can't get more fresh than that. Depending on the month depends on what fruits you can pick. They opened about two weeks ago, on June 22 for the season, and currently only cherries are available. They have both golden and red, and having only opened recently, some trees are full, while others will continue to fill out through the next couple of months. To get to this hidden gem, drive west towards Filer on Pole Line until you see the sign, and turn north. You will head down into the canyon and follow the road until you see the stand on your left. Be warned, there is no phone service, so if you are meeting someone, make sure they have directions before you get there.

While cherries are the only thing currently available, in the coming months other fruits will be available for picking, such as peaches, pears, apricots, plums, apples, watermelon, and more. Look at the picture above to see when each is available. The stand closes in early to mid-October and will remain closed until next June. They are open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM. If you have never picked fruit before, it is fun, creates memories for the family, and you get to enjoy fresh delicious fruit when you get home. It will taste better than buying it from the store.

The stand will close periodically, depending on how much fruit is available, as each season is different. Make sure to always check online or call to see what is in season or if they are open. The signs are a guideline, but depending on how many customers come and how the season was will dictate what is available. Make sure to check out this hidden gem and enjoy some delicious fresh fruit the next time you are craving some.
