Ever since the Quagga Mussel invasion began in Southern Idaho, it has been tough finding a lake that is open around the Twin Falls area.

Last year, it was pretty much just Murtaugh Lake that was open for all types of recreation. This year is already better, as Centennial Park and access to the Snake River has been open for months.

This Popular Southern Idaho lake is Back Open Following Road Repairs

A little over a month ago, access to the Shoshone Falls was reopened to the public. The area had been closed as the road was repaired and widened in some sections to make travel safer for visitors.

But, up until this week, access to Dierkes Lake has been closed due to an extension of those renovations and road repairs. After the ticket booth at the top of the Shoshone Falls Grade, the road splits, and you can head left down to the waterfall or take the road to the right to get to Dierkes Lake.

That section of road where the split happens was riddled with potholes and patches, and the road decay was worse heading towards Dierkes Lake.

The repairs, called the Shoshone Grade Reconstruction Project, are now finished, and access to the Shoshone Falls Park and Dierkes Lake Park has fully reopened.

This means all trail and road access has reopened around Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake, including the Hidden Lakes, the Canyon Rim trail, and the walking loop around the lake.

Dierkes Lake remains a non-motorized lake, so kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes are allowed, and motorized boats are not.
