Lagoon Opened a New Ride This Year, But Removed a Big One Last Year
The Lagoon Amusement Park in Utah has a long history of rides that vary from chill to thrill. Starting with the carousel over 100 years ago, to the recently opened Nutcracker ride, Lagoon is constantly making changes.
One of those changes happened at the end of the season last year, with the retirement of a ride that had been a staple of the park for 50 years.
What is Going to Replace This Lagoon Ride That Was Quietly Removed Last Year?
I was at Lagoon last year during Frightmares when I learned that the Jet Star II ride was taking its final passengers. The ride was never really meant to be a permanent attraction, which was apparent as the kids working the ride would go out between runs to knock braces on the ground back into place to stabilize the roller coaster frame.
Lagoon didn’t make a big deal about the retirement of their first steel coaster ride that had taken passengers on high-speed and jarring rides since 1976. We found a short video on social media about the closure, but that was pretty much it.
Lagoon isn’t wasting any time in replacing the roller coaster. Visitors this year have already spotted signs of a replacement ride.

A temporary fence, lined with a checkered flag design and the words ‘READY.SET.2027’ printed down the center have fans speculating that the new ride will be a race car themed attraction. Whether it will be a roller coaster or some type of actual race cars or go karts is uncertain.
We think it is worth noting that the new ride doesn’t need to be the same size as Jet Star II was. Lagoon could remove or relocate the Air Race and Flying Aces rides to the east to double the real estate, you can’t go west because of the Sky Tram, or they could build in a completely different spot. There is a lot of space being used as temporary parking around the park that could be used for expansion.
