There were 2 fatal car accidents over the New Year's weekend in Idaho. A 78-year-old woman was killed in Ada County and a 21-year-old male was killed in Lincoln County.

2 Fatal Car Accidents Over New Year’s in Southern Idaho

The first fatal accident happened less than 30 minutes before midnight on New Year’s Eve. The Idaho State Police are investigating the accident that happened on the Ada and Canyon County borders on US Highway 20-26:

A 78-year-old woman was driving a 2003 Dodge Stratus northbound on Can-Ada Road. A 36-year-old female, was driving eastbound on US Highway 20-26 in a 2012 Chevy Traverse. The vehicles made contact in the intersection and came to rest blocking both lanes of travel.

The driver of the Dodge, was wearing her seat-belt. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Chevy was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital. She was not wearing a seat-belt.

The accident blocked the Can-Ada Road intersection for more than 3 hours as emergency responders helped at the scene.

The second fatal crash happened less than an hour into the new year. The accident happened at 12:50 AM on State Highway 24 at milepost 60.6:

A 21-year-old male from Dietrich was driving a 2006 Mercury Milan eastbound on State Highway 24. The vehicle went off the right shoulder, struck a fence, rolled, and came to rest in a field on the south side of the roadway.

The driver succumbed to his injuries on scene and was not wearing a seat belt.

Idaho State Police are investigating the accident and were assisted at the accident by the Dietrich Quick Response team, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and Lincoln County Paramedics.
