
Former Utah and Current Idaho Meteorologist Tragically Killed in Plane Crash
A tragic airplane accident on Tuesday morning in Idaho killed two men after the plane hit a power line and crashed into the Payette River, near Emmett.
The Gem County Sheriff’s Office released the news on Tuesday afternoon. They did not reveal the names or ages of the two men killed, but a post shortly on social media revealed that one of the men was a former meteorologist in Utah and was most recently the chief meteorologist at a TV station in Idaho.
Meteorologist From Utah and Idaho Killed in Idaho River Plane Crash
The news was initially shared by the Gem County Sheriff’s Office around 12:40 PM and posted on their Facebook page about an hour later. The report states that the deputies responded to the call a few minutes before 11 AM of a plane crash in the Payette River.
Investigators believe that the plane hit a power line and then crashed into the icy river. Both men, the only occupants of the plane, were fatally injured in the crash. The report can’t be embedded here, but you can read it on Facebook.

A few hours after the news was shared, a KUTV news anchor in Utah shared the heartbreaking news that one of the men killed in the crash was KBOI and CBS chief meteorologist Roland Steadham. Steadham had worked previously for years at KUTV in Utah. Heidi Hatch shared the information a few minutes before 6 PM. The identity of the second man has not been released.
The crash remains under investigation.
