Tax Exemption for Idaho Homeowners to Increase in 2016
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho homeowners will be able to claim a larger property tax exemption rate in 2016. The Idaho State Tax Commission announced Monday that the maximum homeowner exemption will increase to just under $95,000 next year.
The maximum exemption for 2015 is about $89,500. State law allows qualified homeowners to claim the property tax exemption for their primary dwelling and up to one acre of land.
The exemption is for 50 percent of the assessed home value, up to the maximum exemption limit. The exemption rate is based on the Idaho House Price Index published by the Federal Housing Finance Agency.
