BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The trial for a man accused of killing his girlfriend and her two boys before burning their bodies in the southwestern Idaho desert is scheduled to start Monday in Elmore County. Jorge Alberto Lopez-Orozco has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder. The Idaho Statesman reports the trial is expected to last more than a month. Police say he killed 29-year-old Rebecca Ramirez and two of her sons, 4-year-old Ricardo and 2-year-old Miguel, in 2002 before fleeing to Mexico. He was apprehended in 2009 and extradited back to Elmore County in March of 2011. Mexico's policy is not to extradite suspects who might face execution, so prosecutors agreed not to pursue the death penalty in the case.
