(AP) Boise State University Athletic Director Gene Bleymaier has been let go as the school faces sanctions due to violations by its highly successful football program and other sports. University President Bob Kustra announced late Wednesday that Bleymaier's career of almost 30 years at the school will end Sept. 8.

Bleymaier is responsible for Boise State's iconic blue turf at its football stadium. Kustra in a statement says he didn't come to the decision lightly. But Kustra says he determined that new leadership is needed as the school commits to the highest level of attention and enforcement of NCAA standards.
