Idaho Falls Woman, Horse Killed After Truck Swerves In Front of Pickup
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) An Idaho Falls woman and horse she was hauling died after a gravel truck swerved in front of her pickup near Idaho Falls Wednesday afternoon.
Idaho State Police say the driver of the truck, Dirk Johnson, age 59, of Idaho Falls, is facing vehicular manslaughter charges. At just before 5 p.m. investigators say Johnson was headed north in an empty gravel truck in a construction zone when traffic started to slow down. ISP says Johnson was unable to slow and swerved into oncoming traffic hitting Shirley Williams' Dodge pickup head-on and the trailer with a horse in it she was hauling.
The truck also hit a sedan, but the driver was not injured. Williams was taken to the hospital where she later died; the horse died from it's injuries. Everyone involved had their seatbelts on. Johnson was arrested and booked into the Bingham County Jail. The crash is still under investigation.
