Inflation Threatens 12 Days of Christmas

I’ve read where the median wage earner in Idaho might be lucky to haul down 800 dollars a week.

The good news for the working class is they don’t buy the gifts mentioned in the song 12 Days of Christmas, although.  Many friends might bring something like turtle doves home for dinner after a day of birding.  I’m also not sure how the cost of the maids-a-milking is factored unless it’s from a scale provided by the old Mustang Ranch in Nevada.  According to calculations for 2016, the gifts from the song can really be cause for holiday depression.

On the other hand, across-the-pond the cousins are looking at a real bargain for Christmas dinner.  Even Bob Cratchit can afford a decent goose this year.

I might also mention the original lyrics aren't "4 calling birds" but "4 colley birds".  In some forms of Gaelic "Colley" means black.  My name is actually Ciulla in Irish Gaelic, but I still take pride in the old lyrics.
