What does it mean to be a snob? According to Merriam-Webster, a snob is "one who blatantly imitates, fawningly admires, or vulgarly seeks attention with those regarded as social superiors."

That doesn't sound like the most positive trait, so why do people become like this? According to Psychology Today, it's probably because of a childhood experience that caused feelings of shame or entitlement, which led to social insecurity. They also say that snobbery can be a symptom of narcissistic personality disorder, which is the need for admiration, grandiosity, and a preoccupation with power and prestige.

Knowing all of this, how can someone determine the snobbiest cities or towns in the country? Using the same criteria you might use with your friends when discussing who is or isn't a snob in your friend group. Obviously, your friend who lives in the most expensive house, makes the most money, or is the most educated is most likely your snobbiest friend. Using that logic, RoadSnacks determined that Massachusetts is the snobbiest state in America and that Oklahoma is the least snobby. Idaho came in at #36 snobbiest, a little below average. That doesn't mean that we don't have snobs here, though. And the majority of those snobs live in the Treasure Valley. That makes sense because that's where most people live.

Last year, RoadSnacks said that Eagle was the snobbiest city in Idaho, which makes sense, and anyone with a co-worker living there absolutely agrees. While it was nice to see science and data back up something most of us already knew, we'd like to see them rerun the numbers to prove to our Eagle friends who disagree with last year's findings that they are indeed snobs.

Here is this year's updated list of the snobiest cities and towns in Idaho for 2024, according to RoadSnacks.

Two cities dropped out of last year's list: Coeur d'Alene and Chubbuck. Chubbuck is the more affluent part of the Pocatello area. Seeing Coeur d'Alene drop off this list is just as surprising as Ketcham not being on it, but we didn't make the list. We just reported it!

Here's last year's list for comparison:
