It isn't uncommon for slow cars to be on the roads in Idaho, but lately, there have been more than usual. Often on two-lane roads in Idaho, someone will be going well under the speed limit and hold up traffic. When it is safe, you can drive around them and go on your way, giving them a dirty look for not knowing how to drive the speed limit. It often is someone who is older who may struggle to see as well, or the more likely case is someone on their cell phone texting while driving. These happen far too often, but lately, there is another element slowing down drivers on the road. There have been an excessive number of slow trucks slowing down Idaho drivers lately, but stay patient and calm with these slow trucks.

Harvest Time Puts Slow Trucks on the Road

Why are there so many slow trucks lately on Idaho roads? The answer is simple. It is harvest time, and these trucks are taking the crops and food you eat to where they need to be. It can be frustrating at times getting stuck behind these trucks, especially when there is a long line of them in front of you, making it nearly impossible and unsafe to pass, but instead of honking at them, giving them dirty looks, or flipping a certain hand gesture, take a breath and relax. These drivers are part of the reason you have food on your table every night, during the upcoming holidays, and keep you well-fed. These are hard-working people who are doing their jobs, and while it may slow you down, they have a purpose for being on the roads.

It can be frustrating getting stuck behind these trucks, not knowing when they will turn, how long you will be stuck behind them, and often not being able to see around them. The good news is that it won't last long. If you can leave a little bit earlier and anticipate delays over the next few weeks, things will go much smoother. The hope is that you don't get stuck behind one, but odds are it will happen once or twice. For those who live in bigger towns and rarely leave town limits, you will be able to avoid this, but for those who commute, harvest season can be tough getting to and from town.

Take a breath and relax on the roads this harvest season. It will soon be over, and you will be able to go the speed limit again regularly without getting stuck behind the trucks. Make sure to thank these drivers if you get a chance, because without them, you don't get many of the food items on your table. Harvest time is here, and so are the trucks that come with it.
