Why Boise State in March Madness is Historically More Like March Sadness
Fans of the Boise State Broncos were ecstatic when the team made it to the March Madness tournament, but that joy was quickly smothered by defeat. But that shouldn’t really be a surprise based on previous NCAA tournament appearances.
BSU March Madness Record Is Dismal
With the final 4 teams ready to play in just a few days, let's take a moment to look back at the sad performance of BSU, again. BSU holds a March Madness record that no team wants. The Broncos have earned a spot on the coveted March Madness bracket 9 times, which is something to be proud of. But that stat is easily overshadowed by the fact that because of those 9 appearances, and subsequent losses, BSU holds the record for most appearances in the tournament without winning. Even if you don't like sports, everyone knows that not winning isn't a good thing.
BSUs dismal record is so bad that ESPN hasn’t even bothered to update their stats to include the latest loss. But, to their credit, at least they have made it to the tournament. Other Idaho colleges are running on decades-long droughts of NCAA tournament appearances. Idaho State is in a 36-year drought without playing in a tournament since 1987 and the Vandals are sitting in a 33-year drought since 1990.
