What is the Cell Phone Use Policy in the Twin Falls, Idaho School District
It may seem like our kids can’t function without their cell phones. The addiction to screens is real, and it’s a real issue for learning environments.
But the good news is, the kids will be alright. In an effort to help kids focus while at school last year, many schools instituted a cell phone ban during school hours. As the new school year starts up, does the cell phone ban still exist?
What is the Cell Phone Use Policy in the Twin Falls School District
Each school district in Idaho can have its own rules about cell phone use, and state law requires each district to have some sort of policy addressing cell phone use. For the Twin Falls School District, those rules are covered in Policy 3735. This is a ‘devices off learning on’ policy to help kids focus and teachers teach with minimal distractions.
I thought my kids would hate the policy when school started last year. But it turned out to be beneficial to the kids and parents. My kids said they were able to better interact with their friends and my wife says it was nice to not get a call every 20 minutes from our youngest daughter for random reasons. That rule went into effect in 2024 and we checked in with the TFSD to see if it was still going to be enforced in the 2025-2026 school year.

We contacted Eva Craner with the Twin Falls School District, who informed us that ‘Policy 3735 is still in full effect for the 2025-26 school year’.

Personal Electronics: cell phones, smart watches, earbuds, and headphones. These devices must be silenced and kept out of sight in lockers or backpacks. This includes during class, in hallways, recess, and assemblies.
Students who fail to follow the rules will have their devices confiscated until the end of the day. If the issues happen more than once, parents will have to come retrieve the devices.
For High School kids, there is a small technological ray of sunshine: they are allowed to use their phones during their lunch break.
