Teen Driver Killed in Crash with Semi Truck in Idaho
UPDATE: Police are now reporting an additional fatal vehicle accident in Idaho, making the total 5 fatality accidents this year. A 71-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle accident today in Lenore on US12.
3 Southern Idaho accidents over the last 2 days have resulted in 2 deaths and 5 hospitalizations. Since the start of the New Year, there have now been 4 fatalities on Idaho highways.
Female Teen Killed in Crash Near Idaho/Oregon Border
A fatal crash was just reported by the Idaho State Police north of Homedale near the Idaho Border with Oregon. The accident happened Friday morning at 6:37 on US95 at Garnet Road. The police report states:
A 1998 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on US95. A 2023 Peterbilt truck was traveling northbound on US95. The driver of the Honda, an 18-year-old female from Notus, crossed the center line and struck the Peterbilt. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt, a 31-year-old man from Caldwell, was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.
The accident blocked traffic on US95 for 3 hours.
Idaho Troopers Injured in Head-on Collision During Chase
Thursday evening, a female driver near Pocatello attempted to flee from police by driving in the wrong direction on the highway and striking multiple vehicles, including an ISP vehicle:
At about 6:18 p.m. tonight, Power County Sheriff's Office pursued a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan that fled on Interstate 86 from a traffic stop. Law enforcement responded to assist as the Caravan evaded deputies. During the pursuit, the Caravan traveled westbound in the eastbound lanes and struck multiple vehicles. The Caravan then changed direction and traveled eastbound in the westbound lanes and collided head-on with an ISP trooper's vehicle near mile marker 52.
The Caravan's driver, a 35-year-old Pocatello woman, was arrested without further incident.
The driver and two ISP troopers were transported to a local hospital for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. While other injuries were reported, no one else was transported to the hospital.
The accident is being investigated by the Pocatello Police Department.
