12,000 Pounds of Bacon Recalled in Idaho, Washington, and Oregon

Thousands of pounds of smoked bacon have been recalled due to an import violation after the meat was not properly inspected during transfer from Canada to the United States.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service posted the recall information on July 24th. The bacon being recalled was exclusively sold at Grocery Outlet stores in Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.

High-Level Bacon Recall Hits Idaho, Washington, and Oregon Stores

Just when it seemed like bacon was going to be the safe alternative to lettuce to avoid serious health issues, we get hit with a bacon recall specific to our state. And, while it may seem worth the risk, since it’s bacon, you should not eat the recalled meat. The USDA has this recall listed as a Class 1 recall, the highest possible, due to a ‘reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.’

The bacon was sold at Grocery Outlet stores in Idaho, Washington, and Oregon, and was imported from Canada. The not-ready-to-eat refrigerated smoked bacon was distributed by Maple Leaf Foods, Inc. under the Royale and Top Valu brand names.

Identifying the Grocery Outlet Bacon Recalled in Idaho, Washington, and Oregon

There have been no reports of illness from the bacon, but consumers should still use caution and either throw away the bacon or return it to the store. The bacon was produced on June 9th, 10th, 12th, 13th, and 15th of this year in 12-oz vacuum packages.

• 12-oz vacuum package of "Royale Natural Applewood Smoked ALL NATURAL Uncured Bacon Product of Canada" with sell-by dates of "SEP 01 2026" and "SEP 07 2026" printed on the side of the package
• 12-oz vacuum package of "TOP VALU Uncured Hardwood Smoked Bacon PRODUCT OF CANADA" with various sell-by dates of "SEP 01 2026", "SEP 02 2026", "SEP 04 2026", "SEP 05 2026", and "SEP 07 2026" printed on the side of the package

The bacon was distributed to 15 Grocery Outlet stores in Idaho cities, including Boise, Twin Falls, Mountain Home, Hailey, and Lewiston.

Around 60 Grocery Outlet stores in Washington received the bacon, including Spokane, Vancouver, Seattle, Yakima, Pasco, and Bremerton.

In Oregon, the recalled bacon was sent to more than 50 Grocery Outlet locations, including Portland, Bend, Eugene, Medford, Newport, and Salem.
