
Fatal Wrong Way Collision on Southern Idaho Highway Reported by ISP
A man from Southern Idaho was traveling on an Idaho highway on Thursday morning when his vehicle was struck head-on by another vehicle headed in the wrong direction. The accident killed one driver and blocked traffic on the highway for around five hours.
The Idaho State Police are investigating the deadly crash.
Wrong Way Idaho Highway Crash Claims Life of One Man
The accident happened on Thursday morning, at 4:05 AM, on Interstate 15 at mile marker 118 in Idaho Falls. According to the report from the Idaho State Police, there were two vehicles involved in the collision.
A 2026 Chevy Traverse, driven by a 65-year-old male from Rigby, was reportedly driving the wrong way on the interstate, northbound in the southbound lanes.
A 2014 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, driven by a 39-year-old male from Rigby, was driving southbound.
The Chevy Traverse collided head on with the Chrysler minivan.
The driver of the minivan passed away at the scene of the crash. The report doesn’t say if the driver of the Chevy was taken to a hospital or injured. Both men were wearing seatbelts when the accident happened.
The Idaho State Police were assisted by five other responding departments.

The Idaho State Police also shared details of an incident in Meridian, that happened near I84 and Ten Mile and included shots fired in a parking lot, a police pursuit, and an hour-long standoff between police and the suspect.
The suspect, 37-year-old John Handegard, eventually surrendered and no injury were reported. A post in the Treasure Valley Crime & Community Facebook page shared more details, reportedly from a Meridian Police Department press release.
A separate incident was also reported by the Nampa Police Department that was not related to the event near I84, but did involve a police pursuit. 55-year-old Shane Matthew Aman was arrested in that incident.
