The Idaho State Police have reported a steep increase in fatal vehicular accidents over the last two weeks, and a large number of the deadly crashes have happened in Southern Idaho in the Magic Valley.

Twin Falls County has seen four fatal crashes recently, and a report from last night by the ISP adds another to the east of Twin Falls in Minidoka County. A man from Florida was walking along the highway late last night when he was struck by a truck.

Florida Man Hit and Killed While Walking Along a Southern Idaho Highway

The news release from the Idaho State Police says the accident happened on Monday evening, March 9th. The incident involved a pedestrian and a truck heading westbound on Interstate 84 at mile marker 207.

  • A white 2013 Ram 2500, driven by a 22-year-old female from Jerome, Idaho, with a 21-year-old male passenger from Declo, Idaho, was traveling westbound on I-84.
  • A 44-year-old male, from Sebring, Florida, was walking eastbound in the westbound lanes on I84.
  • The Ram 2500 struck the male when he walked into the lane.

The Florida man passed away on the highway. It’s not stated in the report why the man was walking along the highway or why he stepped into the lane of travel as the truck approached. There is construction work on I-84 happening near where that accident happened at the Overland Ave. interchange, Details of the accident are being investigated by the ISP.

The man and woman in the Ram were wearing seatbelts and did not require medical attention.

The Idaho Transportation Department has announced that new lanes of travel on Interstate 84 between Twin Falls and Jerome will open this week. Construction on other aspects of the highway widening project are expected to continue until November of this year.
