This could be the saddest and most tragic story out of Southern Idaho this year. Police are investigating how the body of a newborn baby girl was found in a box outside a medical center.
Twin Falls Police Investigating Deceased Baby Found in a Box in Southern Idaho
The newborn baby girl was found in Blackfoot in the Safe Haven Baby Box at the Grove Creek Medical Center. Police in Blackfoot originally began the investigation which has since been taken over by the Twin Falls Police Department.
The death is being considered ‘suspicious’ by authorities as the Safe Haven Baby Box program is a safe and confidential way for parents to give up unwanted newborn babies. For a variety of reasons, some parents are unable to care for their babies and the Idaho program allows them to relinquish the babies without fear of legal repercussions.
Grove Creek is the only Safe Haven Baby Box in Idaho. Other states have them at medical centers, fire stations, and other locations with designated medical staff on-site 24/7. The program was started in 2015.
