BOISE, Idaho (News Release) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said today that Idaho has joined with other states and the federal government to settle its lawsuit against Olympus America, Inc.

The whistleblower lawsuit alleged that Olympus, and certain subsidiaries, paid illegal kickbacks to healthcare providers. Specifically, the lawsuit alleged that Olympus used improper financial incentives to induce doctors and hospital executives to buy a wide array of its endoscopes and other surgical equipment, which enabled the company to unlawfully increase sales and gain market share. As part of the settlement, Idaho will receive $107,219 in restitution and other recovery.

A National Association of Medicaid Fraud Control Units team participated in the investigation and conducted the settlement negotiations with Olympus on behalf of the States.
