State Senator McGee Arrest Idaho’s Top News Story

The arrest of state Sen. John McGee on charges of drunken driving and auto theft threw the Caldwell Republican's political fortunes into disarray.

The disastrous Father's Day joy ride also topped the list of 2011 lowlights for Idaho news.  Police say McGee took an SUV attached to a cargo trailer from a Boise home and got it stuck in a yard down the street. The Senate majority caucus chairman was found sleeping in the vehicle and later failed a blood-alcohol test. Other lowlights this year: Idaho Rep. Phil Hart accused of fraudulently transferring the title to his home to keep the federal government from seizing it to help pay his tax bill. And yes, it's the same house Hart built with timber he illegally cut from state land in 1996.
